Chiri's kind are magical, They can use their magic to truly fly as well as glide.

How do Chiri and Nutsy meet? One posibility is that Chiri is watching when Josh and Fay are captured. Nutsy escapes and is dashing through the trees. Since Chiri is not expecting him to run at her, she is caught by surprise and Nutsy sees her. He passes by her and does not not notice that she is out of the ordinary, he just shouts a warning as he runs by.

Are Chiri's people investigating the gates? Maybe they are responsible for watching for thngs that come through thte gates - if so, it is an old mandate that is not understood - legend. The gate watcher would be a ceremonial position. Possibly, they influenced the Kaedo to get him to reserve the land as a park. This gives them a place to live and clear access to watch the gate. If this influence was begun early in the history of the kinks, it would be commonplace for new cities to have a large park, and less influence would be needed.

Chiri's people hide from the kinks. They are not to reveal themselves. Thus, seeing Nutsy is quite a shock. She is intrigued. She is not sure what he is, but being out in the open puts Nutsy in direct violation of their laws. She soedn't know what to do. She would have to reveal herself to ask him what is going on, and she doeasn't really want to tell the council yet. Maybe the fact that Nutsy saw her is very bad, and she'll get in trouble. Now she has a conflict over whether to tell the council that something passed through the gate.

Or maybe Chiris people have no interest in the gate. She has no reason to report anyone but Nutsy, and he is an enigma to her. Thus, with the possibility of getting in trouble because she was spotted, she decides to find out more rather than report immediately. Possibly, watching is frowned upon because it is so easy to be seen. They have guards neer the home area, but that's very deep in the forest. Most observation is done by scrying, which is difficult. It would be easier and more romantic for a lightweight like Chiri to go watch herself. She is not interested in goverment plots, but in the kinks themselves??? Maybe she's just rebellious like Fay.

One possibilty, is that if the bad kinks catch nutsy outside the jail cell, (like in my picture), He would try to chew through teh net. The kinks would knock him out. Chiri would then be despirate to keep them from being discovered, so she would save him. He wakes up to see her, and is quite confused.

The Kink's emotional/color symbology is based upon an inverted color pyramid:

The point at the bottom is black, shading through grey to white up the central axis. The four corners at the top are red, yellow, green, and blue. Red represents happiness, green represents sadness. Yellow represents love, blue represents hate. Black represents death.

Luminosity represents health. Saturation indicates emotion.

White represents perfect health and serenity. Thus, this is the goal, the optimal state for a kink. The purer white a kink can become, the more highly respected they are. The aristocrats are very proud of the purity their fur can attain.

Kinks show their day-to-day emotional color in generally the same places as humans - on their cheeks (cheek ruff, under the eyes, and long the muzzle) and on the edges of their ears. The kinks have conscious control over the color of their entire bodies, but emotional colors are generally emoted in these areas. Just as a smile can be forced, natural, or even uncontrolable, the kinks' facial colors are only partially under control. The edges of the ears are the hardest to control, and are thus the place likely to give away a kink's emotions. Covering the whole body in color indicates great emotion. Thus, funeral mourners will turn dark green, a male making a marriage proposal would be bright yellow as a sign of his love.

The sugar gliders are mythical beasts to the kinks. Legend states that they are magical and good, similar to unicorns in popular americal mythilogy. Thus, Nutsy appears to be a happy unicorn. Josh, on the other hand, could be interpreted as something akin to the grim reaper. Still, meeting a person in a huge black cowel would not be as scarry during hte day as if that person were to apear to you in a dark alley.

Nutsy meets a sugar glider. She is named Chiri, which is short for Chirichanatimasanumatagano. The sugar gliders have strong Asian influence, while the rest of the species are very European.

A few more ideas: Josh doesn't play recorder well - give to Fay who does. Fay gives him a guitar (or similar) which he can play. Maybe he (or relative) used to have one? Can play a duet, like on CD. Does giving away recoder insult Nutsy? givin of instrument as a symbol of friendship? (nutsy -> josh -> fay -> kayla -> serin ->(!) Josh) Can instruments be used as a plot device - Fay plays recorder to send a signal?

Idea: secret species - sugar gliders on Fays world. Are marsupial and thus mystical. Hidden and watching. One female is infatuated with Nutsy and helps him out. Amor?

Nutsy and josh returning from Josh's birthday at his parents. Nutsy gave Josh a flute. banter about mom's good cooking, lack of work for josh (carpenter). Conversing - Josh on ground Nutsy in tree, Nutsy surprised by young bobcat who knowcks him out of the tree. Josh protects from bobcat kid. Kid attacks, wounds Josh, but Josh knocks him upside the head. Kid complains, says he will tell father, Josh says your father would disown you if he knew you had been beaten by a peon. Josh and Nutsy are both injured, but Nutsy doesn't know what happened and Josh downplays his role, leaving out the fight.

Serin is from cold world. Fox clans. Few handicrafts, but well versed in philosophy, rhetoric, other verbal arts. Accidently went through gate, now wants to get back so he can support his family and be there with his son for his son's rite of passage. Raccoons are thieves. Nutsy manages to befriend. He is curious, and follows the lost blue fox. Helps him in some way.

In Josh's world, marsupials are weird - druidic. However, they know medicine very well. Predators are semi-barbaric/semi-feudal in Josh's world, so there is no love between Josh and Serin.

Carnivore lords - peons pay tithe to Lord and he seeks prey in neighbor's lands, tries to defend his own Bobcat family rules J&N's forest. We see how strong Josh's frienship is for Nutsy, and why Josh dislikes the carnivores, and thus Serin. But Josh has created an enemy, and Serin is the only one who can save him. The fox will have to cow the young bobcat somehow, much later.

More background: It was a raid that killed old carpenter (beaver). That's how Josh got his job. He replaced the old carpenter. So He dislikes the system, but has benefitted from it. Is also one of the few animals who could fight against it, but not by himself. He might hear of Fay's worlds with only one type of creature, with the leaders being the same as the populace, and think that it would be a utopia.

Walking back when they find Fay.

On Fay's world, she is a member of an aristocratic family. King is dead and father can assume the throne. However, there is a threat against Fay so father is anxious. Fay knows nothing. Escapes house looking for adventure, so she goes to the park. Yearning takes her through gate. She gets lost. Sees blackberries, gets caught in vines. Cries. Nutsy and Josh come. Help her out. She follows them, but the blackberries make her sick. (it starts to rain)

Quickly get her in shelter - Serin's den. Get Madam Vera, the opposum gives medical attention. Maybe druidic advice?

Become friends, learn language better. Serin is aloof and only learns a little.

On Fay's world, G is searching. Is being followed, so he starts a fight in a bar with his shadows. Fight concludes in the park. G is stabbed, stumbles through the gate.

Serin finds, calls everyone over. Fay is horrified. Serin disappears, unwittingly going through gate. Is attacked on other side, so he runs into the woods.

Serin meets Kayla in woods. She helps him and he guards her, so she rises in position of the Rat pack.

Josh, Fay, and Nusty figure out the gate and travel through. Josh and Fay are captured. Nutsy is not, and stays hidden. He sees where they are taken and watches them write a ransom note. He flies back to the park and is captured by the rat pack for food. Serin gets Kayla to save him.

Nutsy tells about what is going on. Kayla understands.

She must go to the third house and say what is happening. Does she need to be convinced?

Kayla tells the kaedo. Sends a stike force (does Darten join?). Member of rat pack hold grudge - find out that Kayla is going to tell Kaedo, so tells captors - strike force is ambushed. Kaedo is furious, Kayla's credibility is ruined.

Now Nutsy and Serin and Kayla must save.

The conflict between Josh and Serin is difficult. Neither on trusts the other. (can add suspicious circumstances to increase distrust?) So, how do we get them to trust? Nutsy is the intermediary: He trusts both. (Why does nutsy trust Serin? How did they meet?) Can we assume that Josh and Nutsy's strong friendship can go unexplained? I think so. Serin saves Nutsy, Josh saves Serin, Serin saves Josh?

OR, Josh and Serin must work together somehow. (Josh saves Serin. Can Serin overcome his prejudice?)

Then what? Unresolved: How does Serin get back home? Must find someone who can repair the gates. Relationship between Josh and Fay? Relationship between Serin and Kayla?

Nutsy and Josh are returning from a visit to Josh's parents. Josh is a carpenter, Nutsy is a jack of all trades(?). Nutsy is a translator/diplimat/go-between. Knows many languages. Why visiting? Josh's brother has a broken leg? Parents' aniversary or Josh's B-Day? If B-day, Nutsy gives a pocket knife?

Walking back when they find Fay.

Serin is from cold world. Fox clans. Few handicrafts, but well versed in philosophy, rhetoric, other verbal arts. Darten goes with her to save. The other rat pack members give away the plan, Darten is captured and Kayla's credibility is ruined. Nutsy suggests that they try to same them, since josh is captured too,

OR, expedition to save fails because new hire is double agent for fourth house

OR, expedition is successful

OR, Fay is saved, but others aren't: Josh?- Nutsy and Fay would want to go back. Kayla?- Serin wants to go back, but why would they hold Kayla?

OR, Josh and Serin must work together somehow. (Josh saves Serin. Can Serin overcome his prejudice?)

Then what? Unresolved: How does Serin get back home? Must find someone who can repair the gates. Relationship between Josh and Fay? Relationship between Serin and Kayla?
