I slept in today. I was up late trying to get my web server back working again, and I've got a cold, so I enjoyed just staying in bed. Michelle and I went to Central Market for lunch and had cowboy burgers - excellent! Then we made a quick trip by Half Price books to pick up a San Francisco guidebook, since Michelle didn't have one. Not bad, we made it out only purchasing six more books than the one we came for (and we did find the one we were looking for). :)

I'm catching up on log entries and such for that last week that my computer was down.

Yeah baby! Nothing improves morale like kickin' ass. Hugh! 34m 02s! Strapped on my pack, stuffed a kleenex up my nose, and hauled. Man, I've been averaging 36m 20s over the last four times. I think it was my own ass I kicked, but I whooped it good! Whew!

(I think I do better when I exercise in the afternoon. I wonder why?)

Anyway, backtracking a little bit, I spent the afternoon balancing the checkbook with my nose running like crazy and feeling rather miserable. Michelle and I went to the new Cold Stone to get ice cream. I think it was their grand opening or close too it. They didn't really have a grand opening sign, but they had balloons and face painting. The ice cream was good as always, and the guy talked me up from a small to a medium. :) Michelle said the servers are still a little rough around the edges. (And I agree - they were arguing about the proper protocol for when to replace the ice cream pans: "When you can see the bottom, you need to get a new pan!" "But I was still scraping the corners!") Still, they've got enthusiasm and they were singing songs when they got tips, which is fun. I don't know; I think it's a good idea because it keeps the tip jar on customers' minds.

When we got home, Michelle had to pack and head off to work since she's on call this evening. I noticed that walking around made my nose run less, so when I finished the checkbook, I really wanted to get out and do my walk. And, as discussed previously, it went very well. :) After I cooled down and showered, I had left over Thai food for dinner and watched The Incredibles. (Gotta keep the high goin'.) It's still good! Woo-hoo! And I played The Echo Game track from The House Of Flying Daggers soundtrack, just to be gratuitous. Woo-hoo again!

OK, what next to keep the high going and the boogers at bay?

2005-09-12 : Hi Louis,
34m 02s is your time? Running? Was it a road race, cross country? Makes me think that I need to start getting my butt in gear and keeping track of time and distance on my daily runs.

2005-09-13 : I walk a 2.2 mile loop through the neighborhood near my house, while wearing a loaded frame pack. Besides trying to stay in shape in general, I'm trying to improve my stamina so I can do backpacking trips.

I found that keeping track of my stats on a daily basis helps me stay motivated. It gives me something to compete against and the spur of knowing that if I don't exercise today, I'll have to write down a zero. :)
