I finished three books today! I finally finished Quicksilver. As I've said before, I quite liked it. I was reading the reviews of the next book, and people seem to like it more because there is less science to distract from the plot. Aw. I liked Dr. Waterhouse and the odd science discussions. Well, I'll give it a shot anyway.

I finished the little book on the Incas that Michelle found. It was interesting, and should give me some background for our upcoming trip.

I also finished The Tale Of Despereaux. That was interesting. And probably the quickest I've ever read a 270 page book. :) I used to try to estimate the word count of the books I read, but the problem was that it took to long, and I eventually got tired of writing it down. Now I only record the name of the book, but it hides the fact that some books are significantly smaller than others. I wouldn't be surprised if the entirety of Despereau was equivalent to less than 50 pages from Quicksilver. :)

Despereaux is definitely written for a young audience, though perhaps to be read aloud since there are some complex words in there. It's darker than I expected too. But very much a fairy tale or fable. The author addresses the reader frequently and wants you to think about the story.

Well, I'm not sure what to ready next. I'm a little worried that I'm rushing through books because I want to get my yearly book count up, but I tend to read fast regardless, so maybe that's not the problem. As you may have noticed, my to-read pile is quite large (47 books). I wandered into Barnes & Noble last night, but I didn't have a strong urge to buy anything. Either I'm just out of my buying mood, or having a full stack of things to read has significantly diminished my urge to add to it. I was able to walk by Inkheart and Enterprise Integration Patterns with only the slightest urge to get them. :)
