My presentation today went very well. I presented a talk on how to do unit testing against databases to the Twin Cities Oracle Users' Group (TCOUG). It's basically the same talk I gave at the Java SIG, but with quite a bit more polish. I'm posting the slides over in my projects section. I presented to an audience of about sixty to seventy people. I probably had at least five people come up to me after the talk and say they liked it. I even had an offer for a small consulting opportunity. Quite interesting! Worth remembering for future reference. And amusing, since this is the second side opportunity I've received this week. For now, I've got to turn these down. As fun as they would be, I'm not getting enough sleep as it is. :) Actually, it's kind of funny. I'm probably one of the few presenters you will ever see who is trying not to sell you anything. (Hedge funds can't advertise, and we're not a consulting company anyway.) Well, other than trying to sell you on unit testing.
Another side observation: I had to put together a quick bio blurb for the meeting announcements. The usual stuff, Caltech, Microsoft, Deephaven. It seemed a little short and didn't say why you should listen to me, so I added a line saying, "My passion is software development." I got two different comments on that! All I will say is passion, like love, is not something you have a limited supply of. Being passionate about one thing doesn't mean you can't be passionate about something else. But I can only talk passionately about one thing at a time without sounding incoherent. :)
