Well, today was a productive day. I attended four 1.5 hour sessions and two 1 hour sessions. I took twelve pages of notes, not counting the ones I'm writing right now. I started off the morning with a walk along the bike path. It's pretty nice being out at sunrise. Most of the sessions were more interesting than I expected them to be, thought one was less. Rebecca Wirfs-Brock had a session on reliable collaborations between objets, which turned out to be mostly a discussion on exception handling. While she did raise some valid points, for the most part I disagreed with her points, so it was a disappointing session.
I had fun checking out the book table. It's neat to see so many real programming books in one place, rather than the single shelf out of an entire section of fluff at a book store like Barnes and Noble. I didn't buy anything, but I did take notes for future reference.
I went to visit Sean and Heather again. We went out to dinner at the Los Altos Grill (?). We had a roasted artichoke for an appetizer, which was a preparation I'd never had before (and it was good). I had a rotisserie cooked chicken breast, which was also very good. It was a good evening. It was interesting being around someone who uses computer idiom in normal conversation for a change. It's been a while. One interesting thing about talking with true nerds is the idioms of their field will come out in normal conversation. It seems like there were a couple of interesting things said, but the one I remember was talking about "failure modes" of motorcycles. Doctors would use different idioms. :)
