Today, Michelle and I got up and went out for coffee together. Then we decided to try and do a day hike in one of the local national forests. We went to the grocery store to get cheese, crackers, and salami for lunch, then packed up and headed north on I-45 to the Little Lake Creek Wilderness Area in the Sam Houston National Forest. (info, map) We hiked around trying out our new equipment. I love my new hiking boots and my trekking poles. The trail was very wet and muddy because it had rained yesterday. We hiked three different trail segments until each was blocked by a creek too deep and wide to cross. We didn't get to hike too far, probably around two miles. By then Michelle's shoes were soaked (she didn't think here new hiking boots were broken in enough for a real hike) so we stopped. On the way home we stopped at Michaels and got some pillow forms for the Indian style pillow covers Michelle got for Christmas. We also found a framed Ansel Adams picture of Bird Woman falls in Glacier for $20, so that followed us home too. We stopped at Sams and made it out under $50 which must be a record - we just needed some pens, blank CDs, a Texas map, and some water.
When we came home, we baked some cookies (because Michelle wanted to take some to work) and went to Chipotle for dinner.
