My trip home was interesting today. My schedule just changed again. I'm now leaving work after
market close again because my flight is later. When I checked in, the kiosk asked me if I wanted
to upgrade to first class, which it hasn't asked in a long time. I'm automatically upgraded to
first class if possible, so if the kiosk asks, it means it didn't and won't happen. Then I got my
ticket and noticed I was in seat 2C, which is a first class seat in the front of the plane. That
was weird but I didn't worry too much. After walking around the airport, I headed for F concourse,
where my flight has been departing from recently. Well, I checked my ticket and it said gate A11.
That was a big surprise! That's clear around at the far opposite end of the airport. I've never
flown out of those gates going to Houston.
They usually only fly the really small planes out of that
section. Odd again. So I went to the gate and waited. I noticed the gate agent coming around and
giving everyone with a roll-abord a gate-check tag. Odd again. Finally it was time to board the
plane. The gate agent skipped the whole first class / exit row / people needing extra time or
assistance phase and started loading the back of the plane. And the second boarding group was
all rows / all passengers. When I got on the plane, my suspicions were confirmed. Yup, I was
flying the "dinky" home. It was a 2-2 seater with tiny overhead bins. Row two was a bulkhead row
on the right side. For the most part I don't care. My backpack still fit in the overhead bin, and
normal narrow seats are not a big issue. However, I was expecting dinner. A bag of pretzels
is just not the same thing. :) I ended up swinging by Taco Bell on the way home. (Taco
Bell's chicken stuff is just not as good as their beef stuff. I keep hoping it'll change,
but no luck so far.)
