Interesting day! I spent the work day writing a script that will take a Java GC log and produce a graph of it. I spent a lot of time figuring out how to get the Office Web Components to work, but I finally got it producing exactly what I wanted. The trick is I wanted a double Y-axis graph. After spending a long time working through the API, I finally figured out that the only way to do it was through the XML interface. Ah well. It's still pretty slick. I should post it.
The AC repair man came today and gave our system a tune up. Now our system's in tip-top shape, though he had a bunch of recommendations on how to improve out cheap HVAC system. Of course, if it's that cheap, I'm not sure why it would be worth putting a lot of money into accessories. :)
This evening was movie night! I started with Monsters, Inc., which I watched while I worked out on the stair climber (through the first twenty minutes, then I collapsed on the couch). Watching it reminded me again of how great it is. I love Mike's monologues. And the doors!
Then Ghiblies, Part 2, which came with The Cat Returns. That was really funny. It's a collection of short pieces which I would characterize as animators letting off steam. (Kind of like today's bit of programming - just a programmer letting off steam, doing a little project because I can for a change, instead of because I have to.) Weird stories, unusual artwork. One was about spicy food - one dish of curry was so hot, a cat caught on fire just from the fumes! :)
Then, I watched The Cat Returns again. I was a bit more relaxed this time. I'm always kind of tense when I watch a movie with someone else that I picked out. I always feel the movie has to measure up and be worthy since I recommended it (and, heck, in this case, bought it).
Then, I watched Whisper Of The Heart. I wanted to watch Nausicaä, but I had to watch this one first because it's the one the cats came from. Plus, I really like it, and again this watching confirmed it. It's my kind of love story - they both love books, are creative, have goals, have dedication, and set high expectations for themselves, and they fall in love because they appreciate these things in each other.
It's too late tonight to watch any more, so I better hit the sack. G'night!
