This morning we went to the Brasoria County Fair. It was toward the end of the fair, so many of the animals had been sent home. Most of what they had left were the award winners, so we had good stuff to see. The rabbits were pretty cute. Similarly, the crafts section only had the award winners so there weren't too many quilts for Michelle to look at, but the ones they had were very nice.
After the fair, we got excited about working on our own artwork. We went to Micheals to look at their frames, and they were having a frame sale so we were quite happy. However, we didn't have the measurements for the pieces we wanted to get frames for, so we had to go home first.
We stopped at Home Depot and got a got a dimmer switch for the dining room.
We had to drive home past Shadow Creek Ranch, so we stopped in to check out the model homes. We only found one to wander through, and we still thought it didn't have much that ours didn't. The house did have a built in sound system. I liked the control panels for it - they fit in a standard rocker-switch cutout and an LCD display, four buttons, and an IR reciever - very nice use of space, and pretty inconspicuous.
Finally we got home and measured all the art we had bought that still needed framing. We went back to Michaels and spent a few hours picking stuff out in the frame section. We bought a really nice print when we were in Napa Valley, so we ordered a beautiful custom frame for it. I think we finally walked out with fourteen frames or so.
We went to Souper Salad for dinner, then came home and put a few things in frames. We saw an opposum walk by on the fence outside our breakfast area. Chalk up one more kind of animal seen here. :)
While we were out and about, we had seen a billboard for Tosca being performed by the Houston Opera. Michelle and I both like doing cultural things like the opera, and Houston is really great in the performing arts so we were thinking we should take advantage of it while we're here. So Michelle looked them up on-line and got tickets.
