This morning we met Lance, Kelli, and Kyle at a coffeshop in Bellevue. We all hopped in their Subaru WRX and headed for downtown Seattle. We got on the 10:15am ferry and rode to Bainbridge. Michelle and I like the ferry ride, because we love the views you get from the observation deck at the front. It was a very clear day, and the weather was perfect. From Bainbridge, we headed north. We stopped at Sequim for lunch, then turned at Port Angeles and headed up to Hurricane Ridge. We stopped at the viewpoints along the way, and went hiked the short cirque trail at the visitor center at the top. We spent quite a while there and took lots of pictures. We could see a forest fire across the canyon, which was neat. Mostly the fire consisted of just smoke in the distance, but every once in a while you could see flames as another tree caught on fire. Luckily, the breeze was blowing the smoke away from us so despite the fire, the skies were mostly clear. We stopped at the visitor center to buy drinks, and I found a hat I liked, so now I have a hat with a full brim. I've been looking for a good hat for a while now.
We headed back down to Port Angeles, and decided to drive on to Lake Crescent. I thought we might be able to see Marymere Falls, but when we got there it turned out to be a longer hike to the falls than it looked like on the map. We drove the rest of the way to the west end of Lake Crescent, then turned around and started for home. We stopped for pizza in Port Angeles, and we had really good pizza at a little pizza place named Gordy's.
We returned home on the Kingston-Edmonds fairy. We got there just in time to catch a ferry that was departing behind schedule and trying to catch up, so we had a really quick ride. We went back to pick up our car, and then returned to our hotel room.
