The weekend after I arrived in White Plains, my parents came up fo visit me. On Saturday, we went apartment hunting in Jersey City. On Sunday, we explored New York City.
We rode the train from White Plains to Grand Central Station. We decided to go from there towards Times Square. On the we, we noticed that they were having a street fair - the street was closed off and all along the street were booths selling food and other merchandise. We bought souvenir New Your t-shirts from one of the vendors. We walked all the way to the end, which was a couple of blocks. We sat to rest for a moment, which is when I took this picture of my Mom and Dad. On the way back we bought lunch too. |
Here are my Mom and Dad seeing Times Square in person for the first time. "So where is it that the ball drops on New Years?" I'm not sure! |
This is another picture of Times Square, looking the other direction. |
This is a picture of my Mom, sitting next to a cow floating in a fountain. For some reason, there are all these cow statues all over New York this year. They are all decorated by different artists and are usually based upon some sort of pun. We saw a taxi cow, a moo shoe, and a chia cow. This cow is floating on an inner tube in the middle of a fountain! |
We went to Rockefeller Plaza and saw this huge puppy made out of flowers. |
Next we went to Central park. On the way, we passed by Trump Tower, which had these trees growing out of stair-steps in the side. I thought it looked really neat, so I took a picture. |
Here are Mom and Dad in front of the Empire State building, which is where we went next. |
They have all sorts of stuff for tourists in New York. Here, I got my mom to stand with this model of the Statue of Liberty. |
From the top of the Empire State Building, we could see all over. One of the interesting things we could see was over in Jersey City where we had been looking for apartments the day before. Here I have marked out Avalon Cove, which was the first place we investigated. The nice mall where we watched Chicken Run is there, hiding behind some tall apartment buildings. I also marked where I think my final choice for an apartment is. |
This is a cute picture of my Mom and Dad at the top of the Empire State Building, with the World Trade Center in the background. Does this remind you of Sleepless In Seattle? |
Finally, here is picture I took just to see what I could get. We were walking down some stairs inside the Empire State Building, and there was this big open shaft going straight down, with a gate in front of it. So I stuck my camera through the gate and took a picture looking straight down. Nope, you can't see to the bottom. |
