Louis's Photos from 1-1-00

For Christmas, Michelle gave my family and I tickets to see the Rose Parade in Pasadena. Just to make things interesting, it rained the day before. That must have been a cold night for the people camped on the street. Luckily, it didn't rain on our parade. It was just a little cold.

Since the other two pictures of people are interspersed with the rest of the floats, you can jump to them quickly: Michelle and Kim  My Family. Also, jump to the Stanford marching band.

Here we are, bright and early, staking out our seats in the bleachers along Colorado Boulevard, just east of Old Pas.
The parade started off with a large team of bicyclists who are going to bicycle around the world. Don't ask me how they plan to do that. :)
I told you it was a large team of bicyclists.
Next, there was a fly-by by the steath bomber. It was awesome! There were two things that amazed me. First, it was so quiet! It flew right over our heads, and all we heard was a low rumble. If a helicopter or any other jet had been that close, we wouldn't have been able to hear each other talk. Not only that, but we didn't even hear it coming. I tuned on my camera when I heard a murmer from the croud that could see up the street, and by the time I could take a picture, it was already past. That brings me to the second thing that impressed me - for such a big airplain, it has such a small profile when seen from any direction but underneath. In this picture it's really hard to see, but it's not really that far away! It was flying really slow too! I was just wishing it would fly by a couple more times.
An electric car marked the beginning of the floats.

Grand Marshal, Roy E. Disney. I think he's sitting next to Mickey in the back, hiding behind the flowers.
"Dreams Come True" by Target Stores
"The Rose Queen and Royal Court" by Macy's
"Now is the Time...to Celebrate" by AT&T
"Landing Party" by Farmers Insurance Group. This was a cool float. First, all you see is a bunch of astronauts exploring a strange landscape.
Then this giant dragon-like alien raises his head up, and one of the astronauts is caught standing on his nose! Pretty amusing.
