The original Family nas Kan series started during the fall of 1992. About a year into the series, I took a bit of a left turn and began writing a series of alternate timeline stories using the same core characters. There weren't very many written and they have never been made available beyond the original postings to spk.literary, until now.

The branch in the timeline occurs at a time after I have met Kalindra and helped save Velar. Because of an incident on Earth, I get distracted from my desire to head into space to explore, and the encounter with Jab and the Meenzels never takes place.

What occurs then is a series of stories that I intended to be a playground for ideas about what Earth would do if it knew about Magic, Mages, and Velans long before the 2001 storyline would ever occur in the main series.
